Your guide to loans, cards and consumer finance in the Philippines

Education
Our team brings together people with backgrounds in finance, economics and journalism. We work with writers trained in financial analysis and market research, and with editors who trace every claim back to a primary source — a regulator’s circular, a law, or the provider’s own disclosure — before it goes on the site.
Specialties
We cover consumer finance for the Philippine market: online and salary loans, credit cards and debit cards. On loans we work with three figures rather than the advertised rate — the net proceeds that actually reach your account, the total amount you will repay, and the effective interest rate once processing fees, documentary stamp tax and insurance are netted out of the release. On cards we weigh the interest-free period, the rates and fees, the benefits and promotions, and the quality of customer service. We also explain the rules that protect borrowers: the Certificate of Authority a lending company must hold from the Securities and Exchange Commission under the Lending Company Regulation Act of 2007, the written disclosure statement required by the Truth in Lending Act, the limits SEC Memorandum Circular No. 18, Series of 2019 places on debt collection, and the consent and data rules of the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
Work experience
The Finmart editorial team is part of the Finmatcher platform, which has been producing financial content for European and emerging markets since 2021. We have covered the Philippines since 2026. We re-check provider terms, registration status and fees as the market moves and update our pages when the figures change.
Biography
We research how borrowing actually works in the Philippines: how to confirm that a lender or a lending app holds a valid SEC registration, what a lender must put in writing before you sign, what a collection agent may and may not do, what your credit record at the Credit Information Corporation contains, and which app permissions no lender has a reason to ask for. We answer those questions with named sources and figures you can verify rather than with marketing claims.
Our focus is financial literacy. We judge every offer against the same criteria, set out the drawbacks alongside the benefits, and publish tools and checklists so you can run the numbers yourself. How our rankings are put together and how we are paid are set out in full on our evaluation methodology and “How we make money” pages.
Finmart is a comparison platform. We are not a lender, a financing company or a bank, and our content is general guidance rather than personalised financial or legal advice — only the disclosure statement and the agreement from the provider itself are binding.
